American, possibly Charleston SC, hand-pieced and hand-quilted Chintz and cotton quilt, Delectable Mountains Pattern, placed on diagonal. All cotton fabrics in colors Turkey Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green on top, and cotton thread. Four different chintz botanical designs dating to the 1830s are used in the pieced blocks. Feather plume quilted with straight parallel background lines to a white cotton backing, with lightweight cotton batting. Back to front binding along two sides and separate binding on two sides. 95" H x 63" W. Southern, second quarter of the 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Private West Tennessee Collection.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition for age, with scattered staining, staining to fold lines, some fabric loss to chintz borders.
