Frederick Coffay Yohn (American, 1875-1933) gouache and watercolor on paper depictng a dramatic interior scene with a noblewoman with raised arm pointing to a gentleman with a dagger. Signed "F. C. Yohn" lower right. Titled, "Jean! Jean Hugon!" from an illustration in the book, "Sir Mortimer" by Mary Johnston, published 1904. Housed in an ebonized wood frame. Sight – 19 1/2" H x 12 1/2" W. Framed – 31 1/2" H x 24" W. Provenance: Estate of Bill Selden, Athens, TN. Note: F.C. Yohn studied at the Indianapolis Art School and the Art Students League of New York under Henry Siddons Mowbray. He was best known for his magazine illustrations and historic military paintings. Condition: Some toning due to wood backing. Otherwise overall very good.
