19th century portrait of the three Noyes family children: Charles, Emma, and James, sons and daughter of John E. and Allie Noyes of Louisville, Kentucky, circa 1865. Portrait depicts Emma seated at left in a pink dress holding a bouquet of flowers, Charles standing and holding a knife in one hand, whittled stick in another; and James in a yellow gown holding a bugle in one hand Sight: 39 1/2" H x 53 1/2" W. Framed: 50 3/4" H x 64 3/4" L x 2 5/8" D. Note: Charles Emery (Charlie) Noyes, the eldest child, was born in Jefferson County, Kentucky in 1856. He moved to Tennessee, where he married, then moved with his family to Lampasas, Texas. He had four children and was listed in the 1910 census as a marble cutter. The painting descended to his youngest daughter, and was gifted to present consignor. Condition: Some spots of inclusions to face of boy on right hand side; blacklight reveals some inpainting to same area and 1 1/2" repaired tear to boy's right shoulder and 2" repaired tear to background near face of child in yellow. Long narrow section of scattered but significant exfoliation running about 36" wide across top of painting and along entire length of bottom, 12" of right side. 1/4" flake to area above the ear of girl wearing pink dress. Original frame is in good condition but has been repainted gold.
