Joseph Delaney (Tennessee/New York, 1904-1991) sketchbook with thirty-seven (37) images: 36 pencil drawings and 1 black crayon drawing. Includes two (2) religious scenes (Christ and the three crosses at Calvary, one cross shown partially, and a drawing of a saint who holds a knife to a small animal, possibly a fish or crustacean, with two boys who stand by an unearthed treasure chest, one with a shovel), three (3) interior scenes (bar scene with seven figures, domestic interior, and interior with tabletop still life), five (5) outdoor scenes (figures in a city park, likely in New York; three women on a bench before a building; three urban high-rise buildings; figures in the doorway of a commercial building; and a man seated before a harbor and fire hydrant), nineteen (19) figure studies that include complete and partial male and female figures, and eight (8) additional compositions that include sheet with study of shoes and partial nude male figure, a scratched-out face of a man, faint drawing of a vehicle with figure at right, two faint drawings that likely depicts interiors, and three indecipherable or abstract compositions, one in black crayon. Also includes two notes. All sheets approx. 8 3/4 in. H x 6 3/4 in. W. Sketchbook: 8 5/8 in. H x 6 3/4 in. W.

CONDITION: Minor toning to sheets. With some staining and losses primarily outside of images, some detached.
