Bror Julius Olsson Nordfeldt (American, 1878 – 1955) colored woodcut on cream Japan paper titled "The Rock, Nahant" . Pencil signed and date lower right, "Nordfelt, No. 21, 1906". Overall excellent condition with three creases in right cornerpossibly from the printmaking process. Hinge mounted with full margins. Sight – 13-1/4" W x 8" H, Framed – 17-3/4" W x 12-1/4" H. Biography (Courtesy of AskArt & the James A Michener Art Museum): Norfeldt was a painter, etcher, engraverand teacher, who invented a method of printing more than one color with a single impression. Born in Sweden, he immigrated with his family to the U.S. as a child. He became a student at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1899 and later became anassistant to Albert Herter of New York, helping him paint a mural for the Paris Exhibition. In 1900, Nordfeldt went to France and remained there to study and teach. He attended the AcademiÈ Julian in 1900 as a pupil of Jean Paul Laurens,then went to London to study etching and woodblock cutting as a pupil of Frank M. Fletcher. He moved back and forth between the U.S. and Europe, but after WWI, returned to America. He spent much of his later life Santa Fe and Kansas. Provenance:
