Ludwig Bemelmans (Austrian-American 1898-1962) gouache and watercolor on board painting of a European courtyard scene with a central figural duck fountain. Signed lower right. Sight: 12-1/4″ H x 8-1/2″ W. Stained wooden frame: 17-1/8″ H x 13-5/8″ W. Note: An artist and writer, Bemelmans is best remembered for his “Madeline” series of children books, although he also produced other illustrations and murals, including the famous one in the bar of the Hotel Carlyle in Manhattan. Provenance: Descendants of the estate of Lanny Ross, New York, NY. Condition: Very good condition.
