Peti Clements (Alabama, 1911-1999) Black Americana folk art acrylic on canvas painting titled "Lillie Lee and Me" depicting a scene of black and white workers picking cotton in a field, with children and dogs playing in the foreground, and a house with chickens and quilts on a clothesline against a line of trees in the background. Signed "Peti Clements" lower right. Handwritten pencil inscriptions by Clements reading "Best Wishes to the Nortons/from/Lillie Lee & me/Peti – Sept. 1983" and "Lillie Lee & Me/1982/Peti Clements", en verso of canvas. Handwritten retail label with title, en verso of frame. Housed in a wooden frame with an off white linen liner and a wooden fillet. Sight: 15 3/4" H x 19 3/4" W. Framed: 24 1/4" H x 28 1/4" W. Note: Peti Clements was a female African American folk artist. She was raised on a rural Alabama farm and many of her paintings depict scenes of her early everyday life. Her work is represented in the permanent collection of the Tennessee Valley Art Museum, Tuscumbia, AL.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition. Frame with minor abrasions, minor staining to liner.
