Otto Stark (New York/Indiana, 1859-1926) watercolor and gouache on paper untitled late autumn or early winter landscape painting, depicting a group of mostly bare trees on a grassy plain, the sun setting below a mountain range, background. Signed and dated1909 (?) lower left. Two exhibition labels, one for "Intimate Views: Small Landscapes by Artists from the Hoosier Heartland" held at the Midwest Museum of American Art, December 2, 1988-January 8, 1989, and one for "The Best Years: Indiana Paintings of the Hoosier Group, 1880-1915, Theodore C. Steele, Otto Stark, J. Ottis Adams, Richard Gruelle, and William Forsyth" held at the Indiana State Museum, October 11, 1985-March 16, 1986, with artist information about Stark and Steele, en verso. Housed under glass in a carved wooden frame. Sight – 10 5/8" H x 13 5/8" W. Framed – 17 1/2" H x 20 1/4" W. CONDITION: Overall very good condition. Slight buckling to paper, center to lower right. Area of loss, largest 1/4" x 3/4", to frame.
