East Tennessee, Roane County, hand pieced quilt, Full Blown Tulip pattern, by America Waller Goodwin (1835-1893), rendered with all cotton fabric in colors of red and blue on a white ground. Consisting of 24 blocks set 6 x 4, with turkey red borders at two ends. Heavily quilted by hand in diagonal and straight lines of varying widths to center, by the piece quilting to blocks, and cross-hatching to borders. With a white cotton backing and separately applied binding. Back with machine embroidered label reading "Made by America Waller Goodwin 1835-1893). 62" W x 75 1/4" L. Circa 1880.
CONDITION: Overall good condition. Areas of grime to front, back with some minor scattered spotting. Fraying to binding. Losses to red fabric.
