Anna Mary Richards Brewster (American, 1870 – 1952) oil on canvas landscape depicting a lake scene at sunset. Dated 1907 and signed lower right 'A.R.B.". Housed in a gilt wood frame. Sight – 10 3/4" H x 19 3/4" W. Framed – 16 1/2" H x 25 1/2" W. Early 20th century. Biography (courtesy Askart: The Artists' Bluebook): Pennsylvania-born Anna Brewster was the daughter of noted marine and landscape painter William Trost Richards, her first teacher. By age 14, she was exhibiting at the National Academy in New York. She also studied with Dennis Bunker, John LaFarge and William Merritt Chase and in Europe before settling in Scarsdale, New York, where she founded the Scarsdale Art Association. Condition: General wear to frame. Painting overall good condition with darkening to varnish.
