Lyonel Feininger (1871-1956, American / German) woodcut, "Church with Six Stars",1928. No. 2807, Impression 3/3. On oatmeal tan carbon copy paper. Pencil signed. Sight – 4 1/2" H x 4 1/2" W, Framed – 13" H x 13" W. Provenance: Lynnville, TN estate, purchased from Benjamin Galleries, Chicago (gallery label en verso). Note: Feininger, an important contributor to the Cubist and Expressionist schools of art, was born in New York in 1871 and at age 16 moved to Germany. There, he was the Master Artist of the print making shop at the Bauhaus school in Weimar and later at Dessau, until it was closed by the Nazis in 1933. The rise of the Nazi party prompted Feininger to return to the U.S. with his family in 1936. He was also a member of the Blue Four group of expressionists, which included Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky. Condition: Overall excellent condition.
