Emily Guthrie Smith (Texas, 1909-1986) oil on canvas depicting a white-haired female in a grey skirt, white collared blouse, a sky blue cardigan, and a ring on her left hand seated sideways on a simple chair with her right arm resting on the wooden backrest and a window with a view of trees framed by a red curtain at the right in the background. Signed and dated at lower left, "Emily Guthrie Smith 1948." Housed in a molded pale wood frame. Partially intact framer's label and pencil inscriptions, en verso of frame. Accompanied by tag listing sitter as, "Daughter of Fort Worth Founding Fathers." Sight: 29 3/8" H x 24 3/4" W. Framed: 39 3/8" H x 34 3/8" W.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with scattered errant white paint, largest measuring 2 1/2" H x 1/4" W and some minor areas of abrasion to paint, largest measuring 3 3/4" W. Frame with minor wear on corners and front of sight edge.
