Joseph Delaney (Tennessee/New York, 1904-1991) sketchbook with twenty-two (22) images including two watercolor or ink wash paintings and twenty pencil or black crayon sketches. Watercolor paintings include one red-and-black portrait of a woman signed en verso and one reclining female nude. The portrait of the woman is inscribed "John [illegible]" below the image. Pencil sketches include nudes, portraiture, equestrian, architectural, and street or cityscape scenes. Fourteen of the twenty-two images are signed "Joseph Delaney" en verso and four sheets have images on both sides. Two sheets are loose. All sheets approx. 6 3/4" x 5". Note: The sketchbook retains a Joseph Delaney estate inventory label on the front cover. Designated "Sketchbook # 38," the label records the number of sketches as 25 however only 22 are present.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Eldridge "Dit" Shively, White Pine, TN.
CONDITION: Even toning to sheets. With some minor staining and creases primarily outside of images.
