Federal Coastal North Carolina, Wilmington area, mahogany inlaid sideboard, with poplar, and satinwood secondary woods. Block front with conforming top top having string inlaid edges, over a frieze with inlaid panels of alternating light and dark vertical stripes. Central top dovetailed drawer designed as two faux short drawers outlined in string inlay above two oval inlaid central doors, flanked by two actual short string inlaid dovetailed drawers, over two oval inlaid deep drawers. Satinwood panels run vertically down the stiles with satinwood inlay around the case’s lower edge and sides. The whole rests on string inlaid tapering legs with inlaid cuffs. 43 in. H x 70 in. PROVENANCE: Private East Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: Proper right rear leg partially replaced, both sides with age-related shrinkage, long slender triangular repair at the back of the proper right side. The top with old stains, some buckling, and separation of veneer on drawer fronts. Minor rodent chew. One lock replaced. Drawer interiors with stains and residue. Older refinish.
