Eastern Virginia or North Carolina Chippendale walnut chest on chest, yellow pine secondary. Two-part form consisting of an upper dovetailed case with an applied stepped cornice molding, three upper side-by-side drawers, the left and right with wooden finger locks, above two side-by-side drawers above three long drawers, all graduated and lipped, fluted canted corners and full dust boards. The base with applied waist molding, two side-by-side drawers above two long deep drawers all lipped and graduated, with full dust boards, fluted canted corners, an applied molded conforming base with shaped bracket foot facings with spurs. 74.5 in. x 43.5 in. x 22.5 in.; Case width 40 in. Circa 1770.
CONDITION: Older refinished surface. Replaced pulls; several drawers with lip edge breaks /losses with some lip repairs; a couple of drawer sides built-up; some drawer guides replaced, a few loose but present; triangular five-inch cut and patch to top left back bottom corner; later interior brace block right inside of lower case; left rear foot facing appears to be an old replacement.
