Sterling Strauser (American, 1907-1995) oil on Masonite painting, "Fire Dance," 1962, depicting a young, blonde-haired woman in pink leotard and long skirt moving rhythmically against a dynamic background in shades of blue and green. Sgraffito details to face, hand, and feet, and signature "Strauser," lower left. The work is signed again, dated 1962, and titled en verso along with a small sketch of a cubist-style angel sculpture, with notation: "Edmondson Angel / Client Memphis Bank" and "SMC #75". Unframed. 24" H x 12" W. Note: The William Edmondson-related sketch and notation were added to the back by this painting's previous owner, Myron King. King represented Edmondson, and Strauser, through his Lyzon Art Gallery in Nashville for many years.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with some scattered inclusions, grime and minor small streaks; slight chipping at edges and corners.
