Adelia Armstong Lutz (American, Tennessee 1859-1931) oil on board still life, depicting floral arrangement in vase, signed and dated lower right,”A. A. Lutz, 1913″. Housed in what appears to be the original gilt and veneer frame.Condition – Small scratches on painting, torn paper backing. Some losses to corners of frame. Sight – 18 1/8″ H x 11 3/4″ W. Framed – 27 1/8″ H x 20 5/8″ W. Early 20th century. Biography – Quoting the Tennessee Encyclopedia of History andCulture ” Lutz studied art in Europe and returned to Knoxville in 1887 to begin her art career. She painted portraits and landscapes, but is best remembered for her paintings of flowers, especially hollyhocks.” Lutz studied at thePennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC. She also studied and was influenced by the Knoxville artist Lloyd Branson.
