1st item: Blue-painted, dovetailed candle box with paneled, sliding lid and interior divider. Illegible inscription to underside of lid. 4 1/2" H x 11" W x 14 5/8" D. 2nd item: Hanging candle box with scrolling crest above hinged, slanted lid over one dovetailed drawer with four compartments and white enamel pull handle. 15 1/8" H x 9 5/8" W x 7 1/8" D. 3rd item: Faux painted burl document box, rectangular form with sliding lid having notched handle opens to reveal compartmentalized interior with sections labeled in script, "Receipts / Notes / Bills" to dividers. 3 7/8" H x 11 1/2" W x 5 1/2" D. 4th item: Painted document box with brass handle to lid, line and branch detailing throughout, and monogrammed W.B. with scrolling design to front. Pencil inscription, "Walter L. Ball" to interior of lid. 4 3/8" H x 13" W x 8" D. All items American, 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Urbana, Illinois collection.
CONDITION: 1st item: Surface wear to original paint commensurate with age and manner of use. Sliding lid with minor losses to corner. 2nd item: Minor scattered surface wear. Previous repair to one scroll of crest with corresponding glue residue. 3rd item: Minor scattered wear. 4th item: Scattered wear, discoloration, and losses to paint commensurate with age. Does not retain key.
