Paul Lancaster (Tennessee, b. 1930) oil on canvas painting, "Eve in the Garden", signed lower right and dated "Lancaster 70" hand carved gilt frame. 36" x 24" canvas, 43" x 32" framed. Biography: Self-taught artist Paul Lancaster began painting in the late 1950s in Colorado, while training as an Army medic. His grandfather and great grandfather were Cherokee Indian, and Lancaster's love of nature and spirituality influence many of his canvases. His work has been included in numerous exhibitions including The Art of Tennessee at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts and a 2013 one man show at the Parthenon in Nashville, which brought together many of his works created over the last 50 years. Provenance: the collection of Stephen and Lisa Steiner Small, Nashville, Tennessee, purchased from Lyzon Gallery, Nashville, 1970 (receipt retained). Condition: 2 small stains or spots of inclusion in the lower right quadrant (1/8" or smaller); small stains to linen liner of frame.
