East Tennessee, Blount or Knox County, tall tapering cylindrical stoneware pottery jar, with impressed decoration just below the rim above an impressed half-crescent mark “W. Grinstaff” for William Grindstaff. Unknown stamp pattern at the end of the Grindstaff name and a “1” denoting gallon capacity. Unusual circular handle on left side. 12 3/4″ H. Late 19th century.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition with scattered firing imperfections, including one missing handle (appears to be in the making) and one larger firing flaw along the base edge below the missing handle.
