1844 Middle Tennessee signed silk on linen needlework sampler, worked in a red and green color palette with a lower band of floral sprigs, wreath, and butterfly motifs, all common to samplers from this region. Floral and geometricband border over nine lines of alphabet and numbers in varying cases and colors. Signed "Polk", a common Middle and West Tennessee name, and dated "1844". Condition – Discoloration consistent with age, some dropped stitching orlosses to first blue divider. Not examined out of frame. Sight – 15 1/4" H x 16" W. Framed – 17 1/4" H x 18" W. Note: This sampler has been documented by the Tennessee Sampler Survey, which noted that it belongs to the Red and Green Groupassociated with Middle Tennessee.
