American crazy quilt top composed of a wide variety of fabrics including silk, cotton, satin ribbon, and velvet arranged in a 7×7 layout, with 49 blocks total. Each block includes original designs and features including embroidered flowers and birds, Chinese figures, painted blocks, printed photography, a pieced fan, basket, and pitcher, a paint palette, among other unique features including newspaper utilized as a fabric, and unique commercially produced woven fabrics from the period. Hand-sewn and embroidered with pearl cotton and metallic threads. Initialed in metallic thread "CLF". 63" x 63". Late 19th Century. Note: Due to the unique variety of fabrics and features in this quilt, it is likely the quilter was a Milner or seamstress.
CONDITION: This quilt is very fragile with some blocks becoming unsewn, and significant losses to fabrics and thread.
