Napoleon III style ormolu mounted dark green marble inkwell, rectangular form, having three hinged lids with knob or pierced dolphin finials and images of scrolling shells and horns in bas relief. Three wells, two having glass inkwell inserts, are situated parallel to a deep well, surrounded by a molded lambs tongue ormolu trim. Sides with applied decorations of winged horses with mermaid tails and the letter "N" to front, and floral sprays to each side, all raised on four square feet with molded foliate trim. 6 1/2" H x 14" W x 8 1/2" D. Circa 1890.
PROVENANCE: Property of a Tennessee Religious Institution.
CONDITION: Scattered fleabites to marble, general tarnish, surface grime to lid and interiors of compartments. Center arche on the front of inkwell with a glued break. Plant matter taped to back right of inkwell by previous owner.
