Alfred De Breanski, Sr. R.B. A. (United Kingdom/Scotland, 1852-1928) oil on canvas mountain landscape painting, titled "Derwentwater". Depicting Derwentwater lake (located in the Lake District National Park) at sunset, a group of cattle by a grove of trees drinking from the lake foreground, with some cattle, a lone figure and cottage visible mid-ground, all against wooded fells or hills in the background, with golden sunlight visible through the upper left sky. Signed "Alfred De Breanski" and dated "1876" lower left. Housed in a carved giltwood fluted cove frame with projecting shell and foliate corner elements, placard fixed to lower edge with painting title, artist information, and date. Sight: 19 3/8" H x 29 1/8" W. Framed: 28" H x 38" W. Originally purchased from Cider House Galleries, Bletchingley, Surrey, UK. Artist Biography: London-born painter Alfred De Breanski Sr. was a highly successful painter of mountain landscapes in the late 19th century, including Welsh, Scottish and Lake District scenes. He made his debut at the Royal Academy in 1872 and continued to exhibit there until 1918, exhibiting a total of 43 works. De Breanski also exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Many of his relatives were artists, including a brother, sister, and his wife as well as two of his sons.

CONDITION: Light craquelure to upper left sky area. Small loss to canvas lower left corner, approx. 1/4". Scattered areas of inpainting to trees at center and sky, largest 1 1/2" x 1 3/4", primarily top left, does not correspond to repairs to canvas.
