Full-bodied running horse weathervane, possibly by J.W. Fiske, copper with cast zinc head; mounted to pole with gilt orb and directionals, and secured to a later wooden base. Horse: 17 1/2"H x 34"L (nose to tail) x 5"W. Overall (with base and directionals): 75"h x 37"W x 31"D. American, circa 1870.
PROVENANCE: Private Alabama collection, purchased c. 1980s from Rich's Antiques, Decatur, Alabama.
CONDITION: Verdigris surface, filled bullet holes; welded repairs including to tail, rear leg. Denting to gilt orb.The pole and directionals may not be original to the horse.
