Federal banjo clock with painted dial and brass bezel. Red and black eglomise throat and base tablet, the throat with classical figure decoration, brass side arms. Unmarked. Later giltwood shelf affixed to underside. Possibly Boston, circa 1805. 29"H x 10"W x 3-1/2" D (not including undershelf). Provenance: the estate of Margaret Wemyss Connor, Nashville, Tennessee. Gift to William H. Wemyss from his mother, history of hanging at family home known as Maple Shade in Gallatin, Tennessee and Fairvue Plantation). Condition: Heavily modified. Losses and repainting to face and glass, losses to brass decoration at side arms, not running, missing key. Old period unsigned works have been modified, missing weight, not in running order. Missing finial, top block added.
