Continental School, possibly French, oil on canvas painting depicting a young man with shoulder-length, powdered hair and brown eyes dressed in a formal or court ensemble consisting of a white undershirt with a buttoned collar, a wheat-colored vest, and a red jacket with blue lining. The subject is holding a brown ring in one hand and resting the other on the back of a black and white dog, seated upon a surface with a brown cloth covering. Unsigned. Housed in a molded giltwood frame with foliate decoration. Sight: 33 7/8" H x 25 3/4" W. Framed: 40" H x 32" W. 18th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Chattanooga, TN collection.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with very light scattered exfoliation and some inpainting to boy's coat, dog, wig, and face, largest area 3" on right hand side. Painting has been relined.
