Chinese lacquer carved red and gilt temple altar or shrine, the shaped top with openwork floral decoration atop a box faced with carved giltwood frieze depicting court scenes on front and back and serpents on sides, flanked by green and gilt carved bamboo style pilasters and carved giltwood floral and scroll supports at the four corners. Red painted base ornamented with applied giltwood floral and scroll decoration; leaf carved cabriole feet with gilt carved foo dog masks at knees. Late 19th century. 13-1/2" H x 17-1/2" W x 14" D overall. Provenance – The Estate of Eddie Jack Miller, Johnson City, TN. Condition: Losses to carved frieze along center.
