East Tennessee walnut tall chest, possibly Knox County. Elaborate ogee cornice, bank of three over two drawers over four graduated drawers, ogee base molding, raised on tall bracket feet with carved returns. All drawers are dovetailed with lip molded edges and appear to retain the original brasses. Poplar secondary wood. 62 1/4" H x 39 1/2" W x 21" D. Provenance – Alfred T. Gaut estate, Knoxville, TN. Gaut's grandfather was a Knoxville postmaster in the late 19th century. CONDITION: Old refinish. Backboards reset, couple of breaks to drawer corners, couple of old patches, a more contemporary finished board covers the original top, breaks to feet facings, missing and replaced blocks.
