1st item: Kentucky Coin Silver Sugar Tongs with large round grips and shaped arms, marked in banner Smith & Grant (Richard Ewing Smith, working Louisville, 1827-1831). Old English style monogram W or M on bridge. 6 1/4"L, 1.37 oz troy. Ref. Marquis Boultinghouse, Silversmiths of Kentucky, 1785-1900, p. 306, mark illustrated p. 299, fig. 149 B. 2nd item: Coin silver cream ladle, attr. Nelson County, KY, with fiddle handle, monogrammed Y, unmarked. 5 3/4'L, .725 oz troy. Note: this ladle was purchased out of an estate in Winchester, Kentucky. The elongated handle with narrow upper shaft, under the fins, is consistent stylistically with other ladles from the Nelson County area. Provenance – Lexington, Kentucky area collection.
