"Bird's Eye View of Philadelphia" map, drawn and engraved expressly for Harper's Weekly from sketches by Theodore R. Davis, 1876. Originally published as a supplement to Harper's Weekly, New York, June 15, 1872. Map depicting the city of Philadelphia, PA and surrounding areas with streets, bodies of water and islands, including the Delaware River, Windmill Island, and Smith's Island, and other areas of interest. Map bordered by seven vignettes depicting notable sights in Philadelphia including Independence Hall, Girard College, and the U.S. Mint. Text page, en verso. Encapsulated (not laminated) in plastic. Image – 19 1/2" H x 29 3/4" W. Sheet – 20 1/2" H x 29 7/8" W. Plastic sleeve – 22" H x 31 1/2" W. Late 19th century. CONDITION: Overall good condition with tears, largest 5", areas of repair, largest 2 1/4" x 1", areas of toning. David Lloyd Swift label indicates that the map was professionally encapsulated, cleaned, and deacidified on October 27, 1987.
