Robert William Wood (American, 1889-1979) oil on canvas landscape painting of the New Mexico desert, depicting a landscape with desert shrubbery and hills in the background, under a cloudy sky. Signed "Robt. Wood" lower right. Housed in the original gilt wood and composite frame. Sight – 24 1/4" H x 29 1/2" W. Framed – 32 1/2" H x 37 5/8" W. Circa 1947. Painting originally commissioned from the artist by a Texas couple and descended in the family until purchased by present Knoxville, TN private collector. CONDITION: Craquelure. Surface grime primarily visible in the sky area. Original stretcher and tacking edge. Some cupping, stretcher marks, top left of canvas. Abrasions to frame.
