Northern European, probably Dutch, marquetry bookcase or display cabinet, mahogany with oak secondary wood. Molded cornice with an acanthus carved central ornament, above two arched glazed doors flanked by canted glazed side panels over a medial molding. Lower section with two paneled doors flanked by canted sides, and resting on bun feet. Overall profusely inlaid with marquetry of various woods, depicting flowering vines, lyres, garlands, foliate sprays and birds. 64" H x 59" W x 13" D. Early 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Pia Stratton, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Missing molding to return on left side. Some general wear and minor abrasions. Some vertical wood shrinkage noted to base side panels. Veneer loss to lower left panel. Scattered veneer chips and discoloration, overall good condition.
