Attributed to Alfred Edward Chalon (English, 1780-1860) miniature painting of a fox bounding through a meadow. Unsigned. Old label en verso reading, "Painted by Chalon for R. Bowes Yorks of Welham, 1840/ CND for H.N.D from Octavia George Thompson granddaughter of R. Bowes". Housed in an oak frame with a black varnish and an inner gold edge under glass. Sight: 1 3/4" H x 3" W. Framed: 3 1/2" H x 5 1/4" W.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Raymond White, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with some areas of abrasion causing paint loss around perimeter. Chipping to corners of glass and losses to black varnish on frame.
