Southern Federal chest of drawers, walnut primary with yellow pine and poplar secondary. Rectangular overhanging top on a rectangular case with plain block apron and plain straight splay style legs. 4 graduated dovetailed drawers with inlaid and etched keyhole escutcheons, scratch beaded edges, and oval brass pulls. 40 7/8" H x 43 1/8" W x 22 1/2" D. Southern, possibly East Tennessee/Southwest Virginia, circa 1820.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Hunter Kay, Franklin, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Original surface. Top with full shrinkage crack and some warping and staining. Shrinkage cracks and surface wear/abrasions throughout. Early repaired left front foot. Partial loss to one rear leg. Some pest damage evident to underside and rear panels. Replaced brass pulls. One lock missing.
