Italian, possibly Florentine, Baroque style gilt carved wood console or pier table with serpentine marble top, inset into a molded conforming skirt with openwork carved center ornament featuring a figural mask; supported on four winged goddess caryatid legs ending in scrolled feet; C and S curve stretcher with central finial depicting a basket of flowers. 39 1/8" H x 56 1/2" W x 25 3/4" D. Late 19th or early 20th century. Note: displayed for many years together with the mirror in lot 156.
PROVENANCE: Deaccessioned by the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts Foundation to benefit the acquisitions fund.
CONDITION: Multiple repaired breaks to legs with associated regilding; large repair cracks visible to wings and breast of one leg and wings of another; visible repair crack above center mask and loss to a nearby leaf tip; missing swag molding on both sides of basket of flowers; several scattered shrinkage cracks; several scattered surface losses to protruding elements. Marble has scattered stains and scuff marks.
