Large Continental Rococo Style giltwood mirror with elaborately carved ovolo molded frame featuring openwork scrolling leaf ornamentation, surmounted by an openwork crest with fully carved winged cherub or putti and a mask at lower center. Mirror with beveled glass, measuring 51 1/2" H x 32" W. Overall dimensions: 92" H x 60" W. Likely Italian, late 19th century. Note: displayed for many years together with the pier table in lot 157.
PROVENANCE: Deaccessioned by the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts Foundation to benefit the acquisitions fund.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with replaced glass; glass has some scattered clouding. Multiple repaired breaks to carved elements with attendant regilding, including full repaired break to crest at upper left corner with a loss to one leaf tip in that area, scattered shrinkage cracks, a few minor small scattered losses.
