Satinwood ladies writing desk or bonheur du jour with contrasting darker wood banded inlay and oak secondary wood, single part construction. Flat top over a pair of doors, each painted with Neoclassical style flame and laurel decoration and opening to an interior with single adjustable shelf. Below the writing surface is a dovetailed drawer over a drop-front storage compartment, raised on square tapered legs. 46-1/2"H x 19"W x 18"D. Probably English in the Louis XVI style, late 19th century. Provenance: the collection of Stephen and Lisa Steiner Small, Nashville, Tennessee. Condition: Scattered shrinkage to sides and top, some lifting to inlay on the desk's right side and light warping to writing surface.
