Georgian-Style Chinoiserie lacquered secretary bookcase with figural and animal landscape decoration. Two part construction; the upper case with double bonnet pediment having gilt molding at top and pineapple urn finials, two arched paneled doors opening to a red lacquered fitted interior with additional Chinoiserie decoration and candle slides. The lower case with hinged slant front lid opening to a red lacquered fitted interior, one full length drawer above two half drawers above two graduated full-length drawers, atop a molded base with bracket feet. One interior drawer is labeled "William R. Eubanks Interior Design". 90 1/2" H x 39 1/2" W x 22" D. Comprised of 19th & 20th century elements. Provenance: The Guardsmark Collection, Lipman Holdings International, Memphis, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Lower case appears to be 19th century with some 20th century replacements to the fitted interior. Two feet with old repairs to feet facings. Top drawer with interior staining. Upper case appears to be an early 20th century addition to the base. Paint and lacquer decoration added to both pieces in the 20th century. Some alligatoring to painted surface along with general light wear.
