English William & Mary style oyster burl veneered dressing table. Consisting of a rectangular molded top with cartouche foliate inlay over three dovetailed drawers with foliate inlay decoration and teardrop pulls, the center drawer above an arched kneehole, all resting on six barley twist legs joined by shaped stretchers. 30 3/4" H x 44" W x 24 3/4" D. 18th century with 19th/20th century elements. Note: Acquired June of 1964 from Daniel Arts in Bristol, VA.
PROVENANCE: Property of a Tennessee Religious Institution.
CONDITION: This piece appears to be an alteration of the base from of an English chest on frame. New blocking on underside of the top and stain applied throughout the inside of the carcass indicates 20th century alterations and restorations. Exterior of case with expected abrasions and minor losses.
