Walter Hollis Stevens (Tennessee, 1927-1980), "Knoxville II," watercolor on paper depicting an abstracted view of the city's skyline under a night sky. Signed "Stevens 61" lower right. Titled and additionally signed en verso. Housed in a chrome frame under glass, double matted. Sight: 16 1/2" x 21 1/2" W. Framed: 23 1/2" H x 28 1/2" W. Walter Hollis Stevens was a member of the "Knoxville Seven" group of progressive artists and joined the University of Tennessee faculty in 1957. Much of his art was inspired by Tennessee and Maine scenery. He was instrumental in organizing the Knoxville Watercolor Society and the Deer Isle (Maine) Art Association. His work won 55 awards in the East and Midwest, and is in the collection of at least 18 museums. (Source: the University of Tennessee Library).
