Chinese enameled porcelain Famille Rose vase having a yellow sgraffiato ground with a painted landscape reserve to one side and Chinese characters within reserve to the other. Additional polychrome painted scroll and vine decoration, gilt mask and ring handles. Base with blue Qianlong seal mark and old Chinese paper label. 6 1/4" H. Republic period. Provenance: East Tennessee collection, by descent from Edwin V. Hill, M.D., deceased 1969. Dr. Hill was a faculty member of Tufts and Harvard Medical Schools and served as a Colonel in the U.S. Army. He collected Asian arts during his military tour in the Far East theatre, including China and Japan, prior to 1964. CONDITION: Very slight area of glaze wear beneath one handle ring, otherwise very good condition.
