Double sided oil on board landscape painting, signed lower left on one side G.H. Baker (George Herbert Baker, Indiana, 1878-1943). Front side features an Impressionistic style landscape of a field with trees at sunset, painted with a thick impasto technique. Reverse side is an Autumn landscape with creek and trees executed in a similar style. Simple oak frame with natural finish allows sides to be easily interchanged. Condition: Some surface grime and wear at edges of board on the autumn landscape side, small hole to board on upper right hand side of the sunset landscape side. Board size: 16" x 20", 19" x 23" framed. George Baker, noted for his Indiana landscapes, studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy and exhibited at the Hoosier Salon. He belonged to the Richmond Group of Artists. Baker was featured in a retrospective exhibit, The Art of George Herbert Baker, at the Richmond Art Museum in 2001.
