American coin or sterling silver compote on foliage figural pedestal with applied metal silver plated animal handles with rings. Monogrammed "MMW". Marks on base. Note: John Cann, a principle in the firm of Charters, Cann & Dunn of New York, used this mark between 1860-1863 when he was in business for himself, retaining the C C & D trademarks of a lion and arm and hammer. Very good condition. 7 1/2" (top of handle) 6 1/2" (top of compote) x 11" W x 8 3/4" diameter of bowl x 45/16" diameter of base. Provenance: Nashville, TN collection.
