Two (2) antique European paintings depicting coats of arms, including one oil on canvas in a later molded wood frame (sight 12 in. H x 10 in W, frame 19 in. H x 17 in W) and one oval oil on metal, unframed (15 1/2 in. H x 13 in. W). Both items 19th century or earlier.
PROVENANCE:
The estate of Dr. Michael Spalding, Nashville, TN.
CONDITION:
Oil on canvas: UV light shows scattered infill painting to shield area, covering flakes up to 1/2 in. Small flake with exposed canvas upper left corner. Craquelure throughout. Oil tin: scattered small flakes, losses, wear, and oxidation, particularly to the edges. 1/4 in hole upper right quadrant. in background. Patches/reinforcement to back. Hole added to top center for hanging.
