Nashville, Tennessee retailed coin silver mug or cup with repousse floral design and vacant central cartouche, molded lip and slightly raised footring. Incuse mark "T. Gowdy" (Thomas Gowdey, b. 1795, working Nashville, 1825-d. 1863). Note: the misspelling on Gowdy's name in this mark, and on other Gowdey pieces, suggests they were made elsewhere and retailed in Nashville. 4-1/8"H, 3.62 oz troy. Circa 1850. Provenance: the collection of John Montague, Memphis, Tenn. Condition: Handle has been repaired/resoldered, otherwise very good condition.
