Pair of Chinese partially glazed pottery female figures, manner of Tang Dynasty, each figure modeled in a kneeling posture, holding a musical instrument. The figures have been set into a metal frame with lamp attachment but have not been drilled; one has come loose from its frame. Figures 11"H x 6-1/2" x 6-1/2". 22"H with lamp attachment. Provenance: descended to consignor from the estate of Joseph Wright Twinam (1934-2001), Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern and South Asian affairs, 1979-1982, ambassador to Bahrain 1974-1976, and dean of the Foreign Service Institute at the University of Virginia.
