Southwest Virginia red painted pie safe, press form, walnut primary, poplar and yellow pine secondary. Comprised of a slightly overhanging rectangular top over one large dovetailed drawer, over two paneled front doors enclosing two interior shelves. Each side has two elaborate punched eagle tins with floral borders, ring turned front feet and plain turned back feet. 42 1/2" H x 42 1/4" W x 17 3/4" D. 3rd Qtr. 19th century. Provenance: Brad Swanson Collection, Abingdon, VA. CONDITION: Old but not original paint. Losses to paint on the top. Left back corner of top damaged. Overall general wear.
