French Empire Style marble top rosewood chest or commode with gilt bronze mounts. Comprised of an Italian Sienna light rouge or tan marble top above a case featuring bookmatched rosewood veneers, having one slightly overhanging top drawer with center gilt foliate mount, three full-length drawers with gilt sun masks and pierced griffin mounts, all flanked by partially turned columns with gilt Corinthian capitals and mounts. Gilt winged female mounts to each side. Gilt wreath style pulls. Straight skirt with gilt urn and foliate mounts, atop ball feet. 33 1/2" H x 39 1/2" W x 19 1/2" D. 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Pia Stratton, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Scattered general wear, wood shrinkage, and minor losses to case, some light oxidation to gilt mounts, light wear to the top with a few shallow marble chips and light scratching. Feet may not be original.
