An assembled group of five (5) boxes, most English, including: one (1) round blond hardwood tobacco box in form of a barrel with ebonized reeded trim and ball feet. 8" H x 5 1/2" dia. ; one (1) octagonal mixed woods tobacco box with pagoda style lid and ebonized finial, base and feet. 8 3/4" H x 6 1/4" dia.; one (1) octagonal mahogany tea caddy or tobacco box with line inlay to the top. 5 5/8" H x 6 3/8" dia.; one (1) coromandel dome top box with brass mounts and handle and white satin lining, 6 1/4" H X 8 3/4" W; and one (1) sarcophagus form rosewood tea caddy with scrolling foliate marquetry inlay, wood handles and bun feet with fitted interior, including two inlaid lidded compartments and open center for mixing bowl. 7 3/4" H x 13" W x 6 7/8" D. All 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Dr. Thomas Bechtel, Memphis, TN.
CONDITION: All boxes in overall good condition with light scattered general wear. 1st box with minor losses to ebonized trim. 2nd box with some scattered wood shrinkage, mostly to the top. 3rd box lid does not sit flush, some looseness to hinges.
